Welcome back Huskies! After a summer of co-ops, internships, or just time relaxing at home - and a summer of event planning and new construction for us (but more on those shortly!) - we're happy to have you all back on campus. With a week and half officially on-campus, we hope that you've been finding your way back to all your favorite dining locations as well as trying something different to find some new favorites. Here's a look at what we've been up to all summer and what we have cooking for this semester.

Tuesday, September 3 was the first anniversary for the renovated Curry Student Center and what would a birthday be without a present? Food Management Magazine recently named the Curry Student Center the Best Renovation in its 2013 Best Concepts Awards and we could not be prouder of this national recognition. Everyone involved this past year - from the architects to the cashiers - played an important role in receiving this distinction and we look forward to bringing new initiatives and promotions to Curry to give you an award-winning dining experience. One of these initiatives is the new pager system available at UBurger and Kigo Kitchen. We know you have better things to do than wait in that crowd of people huddled around the counters during the lunchtime rush. Now you don't have to! Once your order is placed and you receive a pager you can go find a seat, chat with your friends, or even grab a Coke Freestyle drink from On The Go - all things that are better than standing and waiting to hear your order number called out.

Now onto our big project of the summer: International Village. We took the space of the former Cyber Café and expanded your dining experience to bring even more variety and important changes to International Village. The deli was relocated to the new area and is now capable of offering classic deli sandwiches as well as a hot sandwich special of the day - anything from hot roast beef with au jus to crispy buffalo chicken with blue cheese. Having the deli right by the new checker station also allows us to offer Deli To Go, our new program where you can build your own sandwich without even entering the dining hall. The expanded area also includes Zone 7 and an allergen-conscious self-service station. Zone 7 is our dedicated station for guests dining with food allergies and sensitivities. The menu items here do not contain seven major food allergens: dairy, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, gluten, and soy. While this station is perfect for those guests who have food allergies, anyone is free to take food from the station; the entrées are freshly prepared and contain lots of vegetables and unique sauces that would satisfy any palate. Halal proteins are also available at Zone 7 and can be prepared upon request. Finally, the former deli location is now the home of our new kosher station. Hot and cold entrées, vegetarian sides, and pareve menu items are all available and the station and food preparation standards are supervised closely by an on-site Mashgiach and the Rabbinical Council of New England.

With everything new that is happening on campus, we can't forget about the yearly standbys that you have come to love. From the Fall Food Fest coming up on September 30 to the great cookbook authors and chefs coming to the Xhibition Kitchen this semester, we have a lot of exciting things planned for these next sixteen weeks. To get the latest updates about events and promotions, be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter (...and Instagram, Vine, Foursquare, Pinterest, YouTube). We can't wait to see you in the residential dining halls, the Curry Student Center, and at all of our upcoming events!
